The Public Works Department has been utilizing Peterson Tractor Company on a multi-year contract as our sole source for the Caterpillar line of equipment, parts, and in-house and field labor repairs, which cannot be performed by County mechanical staff due to warranty timelines or work load scheduling conflicts. Heavy equipment at the Buena Vista Landfill is used daily and experiences a higher than normal level of wear and tear in this environment, requiring vigilance in regard to maintenance and repair.

The Public Works Department has been utilizing Peterson Tractor Company of San Leandro to provide parts and specialized repair services for our large earth moving and refuse disposal equipment. Heavy equipment at the Buena Vista Landfill is used daily and experiences a higher than level of wear and tear in this environment, requiring high levels of maintenance and repair. During this fiscal year, we had several unanticipated major repairs on some of our large heavy equipment, including the late year repair and replacement of a damaged engine on our large Caterpillar loader. As a result of these unanticipated repairs, we will need to increase our service contract with Peterson Tractor Company by $50,000 to cover these year-end repair services.
