Contract Type FiledMarch 15th, 2007On September 18, 2006 the Governors of California, Oregon and Washington announced the “West Coast Governors’ Agreement on Ocean Health” at the California and the World Ocean Conference in Long Beach California. The West Coast Governors’ Agreement sets forth a new proactive approach for regional collaboration to protect and manage the ocean and coastal resources throughout the entire west coast. This agreement is in direct response to the recommendations of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy and the Pew Oceans Commission. The West Coast Governors’ Agreement on Ocean Health is included in its entirety in Appendix A of this discussion paper.

Contract Type FiledMay 20th, 2012The West Coast Governors’ Agreement on Ocean Health (WCGA) is a regional collaboration to protect and manage ocean and coastal resources along the entire West Coast. Launched in 2006 by the governors of California, Oregon, and Washington, the partnership advances regional ocean governance to protect and restore the health of West Coast ocean and coastal resources and the economies that depend on them. In 2008, the WCGA released an action plan describing 26 key actions to achieve its seven goals, and then formed 10 Action Coordination Teams (ACTs) comprised of agencies, tribal sovereigns, academia, industry, and stakeholders to address ocean issues on the West Coast. In 2011, the WCGA identified four strategic priorities to advance West Coast ocean and coastal health initiatives and provide economic stimulus in the near term:
