This first meeting of the Intergovernmental Task Force on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds in the Mediterranean (MIKT) has the task of agreeing the Programme of Work (POW) for the period 2016- 2020 and finalizing the text of the Cairo Declaration.
To this end, they adopted the Cairo Declaration of 1993 establishing the OAU’s Mechanism for Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution, marking the beginning of the Organisation’s second generation peace and security agenda, and reflecting its slow but relentless efforts at finding a dynamic and relevant role to deal with the prevailing situation of conflicts.
