Cartridge filtration definition

Cartridge filtration means a pressure-driven separation process that removes particulate matter using engineered media. It is typically constructed of rigid or semi-rigid, self-supporting filter elements housed in a pressure vessel in which flow is from the outside of the cartridge to the inside.

Examples of Cartridge filtration in a sentence

  • Cartridge filtration is being used more frequently for treatment of drinking water, and when used in conjunction with pretreatment may be considered for small noncommunity water supplies.

  • Cartridge filtration systems are less expensive than traditional filtration systems, and simpler to operate and maintain.

  • Cartridge filtration and UV disinfection will be popular treatment options; some technical requirements are specified in the notes to Table 10.1.A continuous UV monitor (intensity meter) is required and an alarm or fail-safe device is strongly recommended, and although not usually fitted as standard on point-of-use units, they are usually available as an extra (DWI 2001).

  • Cartridge filtration uses applied pressure to a filter cartridge to remove solid particles from the contaminated water (Richardson et al, 2002).

  • Cartridge filtration is recommended by ClorTec to prevent debris from fouling downstream solenoid valves and the brine pump poppet valves.

Related to Cartridge filtration

  • Membrane filtration means a pressure or vacuum driven separation process in which particulate matter larger than one micrometer is rejected by an engineered barrier, primarily through a size exclusion mechanism, and which has a measurable removal efficiency of a target organism that can be verified through the application of a direct integrity test. This definition includes the common membrane technologies of microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and reverse osmosis.
