Cradle to grave definition

Cradle to grave of the product. This means that emissions and other environmental impacts from a product are counted not only from, for instance, the on-site production of the product («gate to gate» scope). Typically, the extraction and production of raw materials and transport of these raw materials to the production site are also included («cradle to gate» scope).
Cradle to grave means that the analysis covers the full life cycle of the product/service under study, i.e., from resource extraction to use phase and disposal (or end of life) phase. Organizational scope: the organizational boundary defines which parts of the organization to include in the environmental assessment (e.g. main units, subsidiaries, joint ventures, etc.).
