Direct physical loss definition
Direct physical loss means the policy covers all perils of direct physical loss or damage unless they are excluded or limited by the coverage form. The “Causes of Loss-Special Form” (PD-05) is used to provide coverage on property policies other than inland marine insurance. In addition, the specific perils of earthquake and flood are automatically added by endorsement.
Direct physical loss shall only mean a., b., or c. when covered property is metal roofing or metal roof top equipment or accessories. Unless otherwise stated, each Supplemental and Additional Coverage:
Direct physical loss from COVID-19 means that COVID-19 caused a loss (Spectrum suffered harm or privation from the separation from something) from a physical event (COVID- 19 physically contaminated Spectrum’s property; COVID-19 is physical; it is not mental, moral, spiritual, or imaginary) and that cause is direct (there is a consequential relationship between COVID-19 and the loss). From this, the plain meaning does not support the conclusion that physical alteration of the property is required for direct physical loss or damage.
