General law enforcement agency definition

General law enforcement agency means any agency, department, or division of a municipal corporation, political subdivision, or other unit of local government of this state or any other state, and any agency, department, or division of any state government, having as its primary function the detection and apprehension of persons committing infractions or violating the traffic or criminal laws in general.

  • Bylaw Enforcement Officer means a person or persons appointed from time to time by resolution of City Council pursuant to Section 36 of the Police Act, the purpose of which is to enforce regulatory bylaws of the municipality.

  • Legitimate law enforcement purpose means a goal within the lawful authority of an officer that is to be achieved through methods or conduct condoned by the officer’s appointing authority.
