Medical restraint definition

Medical restraint means an apparatus or procedure that restricts the free movement of a patient during a medical or surgi- cal procedure or prior to or subsequent to such a procedure to pre- vent further harm to the patient or to aid in the patient’s recovery, or to protect a patient during the time a medical condition exists.
Medical restraint means a process used for the partial or total immobilization of a person for the purpose of performing or maintaining a medical/surgical procedure under the supervision of a licensed physician or registered nurse or as a physician- ordered treatment for self-injurious behavior.
