Long Term Unpaid Leave of Absence. A. Upon written request, the Board may grant an unpaid leave of absence for a period of not more than two (2) years (one year at a time) for educational or professional or other purposes and shall grant such leaves where illness or other disability is the reason for the request.

Long Term Unpaid Leave of Absence. A long term leave of absence of greater than two (2) weeks and up to one (1) year in length, may be granted by the Associate Director, Organizational Support Services or designate, upon written request of an Employee, subject to the following provisions:
Long Term Unpaid Leave of Absence. 30.01 A Long-Term Unpaid Leave of Absence shall be for a period of one semester or more.
Long Term Unpaid Leave of Absence. An employee who has completed three (3) years’ Permanent employment with the Board may be granted an unpaid leave of one full year. Application of the Unpaid Leave shall be done through the Executive Officer of Human Resources or designate. Extension beyond two years may not be granted. Requests for, including the reason for requesting the leave, should be submitted, in writing, to the Manager of Human Resources prior to April 15th in the year prior to the school year in which the leave will begin. Requests received after this date due to extenuating circumstances will be considered on an individual basis. Upon being granted the leave, the employee will sign a statement indicating acceptance of terms and conditions of the leave. An employee granted an unpaid leave shall be given the opportunity to continue participation in the benefit plans held prior to the leave, provided the employee pays the monthly costs of the premium for the leave period, as arranged between the employee and the Board. Upon return from the leave the employee shall be placed in the position/work location held prior to the commencement of the leave if it is still available, or if it is not, shall follow the Layoff and Recall procedures as outlined in the agreement. Seniority shall not be interrupted. In the year of a leave of absence the member shall notify the Board by April 1st, in writing, confirming the Member’s intention to return the following year. The one (1) year vacancy will be replaced by a Long Term Occasional Educational Assistant.
Long Term Unpaid Leave of Absence. An Occasional Teacher who has been employed by the Board for one year or more and who has successfully completed the probationary period may request a leave of absence without pay for a maximum period of up to one (1) school year. The Superintendent of EducationPeople and Culture or designate shall not approve any requests for extension that result in the leave extending beyond one (1) year Requests for leaves must be made in writing to the Superintendent of Education – People and Culture or designate. Requests for leaves should be submitted two weeks prior to the anticipated start date of the leave, unless an Occasional Teacher has made every reasonable effort and was unable to do so. An Occasional Teacher shall not be granted a long term leave of absence in two consecutive school years, unless otherwise authorized by the Superintendent of Education – People and Culture or designate. An Occasional Teacher shall be returned to active status on the Occasional Teacher Roster on completion of the leave, provided he/she remains in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and meets the Board’s requirements to provide an Offence Declaration or satisfactory Criminal Background Check.
Long Term Unpaid Leave of Absence. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board may grant a teacher a leave of absence without pay for illness, maternity, adoption, child care, disability, educational or professional purposes, or such other leaves as may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Written requests for long term unpaid leaves of absence should be made at least three (3) months before the leave is desired. The Three (3) month notice provision may be waived by the Board.

  • Unpaid Leave of Absence If an employee is on an unpaid leave of absence, then vacation leave, compensatory time, or sick leave cannot be used for the purpose of maintaining eligibility for an Employer Contribution by keeping the employee on a State payroll for one (1) working day per pay period.

  • Extended Leave of Absence Professional employees who have attained renewable contract status may request extended leaves of absence for one (1) year without pay under any one of the circumstances listed in this section. All requests for such extended leave of absence will be applied for and granted or rejected in writing. Such application will be reviewed by the principal and superintendent. If the latter approves, he/she will recommend that the leave be granted by the Board. An employee returning from an extended leave will be assigned to the same position as that which he/she held before assuming the leave, providing that position still exists.
