ADVANCEMENT IN RATE OF COMPENSATION. a. Advancement in Steps (1) Upon successful completion of twenty-six (26) weeks (1,040 hours) of service, an employee shall be advanced to the next higher step of the salary range of the classification. Employees who thereafter maintain a normally satisfactory level of performance shall be advanced automatically at fifty-two (52) week (2,080 hours) intervals to succeeding steps of the assigned salary range. (2) Time spent on leave of absence without pay of ten (10) or less consecutive workdays shall not affect the step increase eligibility date. For such leaves in excess of ten (10) consecutive working days, all leave time shall not count toward step increases. (3) An employee who has completed the required probationary period in their current classification and who is at a salary step lower than top step may be advanced to any higher step in the salary range for that classification at any time. Such step advancement under this provision shall not be subject to the grievance procedure and shall be at the sole discretion of the Department Head. (4) This Section shall not apply to non-career employees.
