Authorized Absence Without Pay - Long Term. Upon receipt of a written request from an employee having permanent status plus action by the Police Chief recommending approval of the request, the City Manager may grant a leave of absence for up to six (6) months. An employee returning to duty with the City shall inform the Police Chief and chief personnel officer of his or her intention at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to the expiration of the six (6) months period or shorter period if the full six (6) months is not taken. Upon receipt of such notice, the Police Chief will take steps necessary to restore the employee to his or her former position.
