Personal Leave Without Pay. Leave of absence without pay may be granted by the College for legitimate personal reasons.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Employees may be granted a personal leave of absence without pay upon approval. Request for personal leave of absence shall be in writing and shall be signed by the employee and given to the Sheriff. Such request shall state the reasons for the leave. Response to the request shall be in writing by the Sheriff and the Human Resources Director.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Personal leave without pay will not be approved except 20 in those instances where the teacher has no appropriate paid leave available. It is 21 understood that a teacher’s willingness to undertake leave without pay does not impose a 22 requirement on the principal or the supervisor to approve the request for leave. The request 23 is subject to approval or disapproval by the Superintendent based on the extent to which 24 the teacher’s absence will impact the instructional setting or the work setting.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Reasons for requesting leave without pay for personal reasons of up to three (3) days, will not be required of the employee unless the number of requests is excessive or the granting of such leave would interfere with urgent work commitments. Permission to take such leave will not be unreasonably withheld.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Leave of absence for personal reasons not to exceed 30 days may be granted to permanent employees of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, if approved by the Superintendent, subject to the following guidelines:
A. No wages or salaries shall be paid during such leave, except as provided in other sections of Board Policies.
B. All such leaves in excess of 30 consecutive workdays shall be approved by the Board, except for those granted in accordance with provisions of the Workers' Compensation Law.
C. Re-employment rights to a position of like status shall be protected.
D. Such leave shall not exceed one year in duration.
E. Such leave may be granted for one of the following reasons:
1. to serve in a U.S. Government agency sponsored volunteer or service program;
2. to fill full-time staff position(s) for AFSCME, Local 1184;
3. to continue no more than one parental leave;*
4. recuperation and regeneration;*
5. temporary relocation of residence outside of South Florida which could result in severe family hardship; and*
6. professional study leave with proof of full time enrollment in an accredited college or university.** * In numbers 3, 4, and 5 above, eligible unit members may be granted personal leave without pay for each of these reasons only once. Personal leave for reasons other than those listed above may be approved by the Board upon recommendation of the Superintendent. ** Professional study leave benefits will be made available pursuant to procedures established by the Board.
F. Permanent employees may request personal leave without pay after three years of continuous employment with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Personal Leave Without Pay will be granted in accordance with Board Policy 4409.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Any full time faculty member is eligible to apply for a personal leave. Leaves may be granted for advanced professional training, travel, and maternity. No leave will be for less than one (1) semester, nor for more than one (1) year. Except in cases of emergency, the application for personal leave must be approved by the supervising administrator and submitted to the Human Resources Office for clearance at least ten (10) weeks prior to the start of the semester involved.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Classified personnel may be granted personal leave without pay for a period of time up to one (1) year providing that prior to the leave, reasons are stated in writing, addressed to the Superintendent and countersigned by the principal or immediate supervisor indicating approval or disapproval. Leave for a period of one (1) year shall be requested at least six (6) weeks in advance. Employment at the expiration of leave is contingent upon a vacancy in the employee's area of employment. It is the employee's responsibility to get approval in advance, except in emergency situations, before absenting himself/herself from duty. Activities engaged in by an employee while on a leave of absence which are not in keeping with the reasons for which the leave was granted will be cause for termination of employment. Employees may be granted leave of absence without pay providing one of the following conditions is met: (1) it is the purpose of attending a college, university or business school and the employee is enrolled in a full time planned program related to the work of the employee which will benefit the employee and the Okeechobee County School Board; (2) urgent personal business requiring the employee's attention for an extended period, such as settling an estate, liquidating a business and attending court as a witness; (3) for health reasons as verified by a licensed medical physician, (4) childbirth or adoption. Extensions of leave of absence, not to exceed a total of one (1) calendar year must be approved by the Board upon the approval and recommendation of the Superintendent. Leaves to accept or seek other employment are prohibited.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Permission to be absent without pay may be granted to a unit member, for a period not to exceed thirty (30) calendar days. All requests for leave without pay shall be made in writing to the immediate supervisor. If a response is not received within five (5) working days of the request, the unit member shall have the right to discuss the request with the next level supervisor. If the leave without pay request is denied by the unit member’s immediate supervisor, the unit member may request that the reason for the denial be in writing. In the case of denial, the unit member shall have the right to discuss the denial with the next level of supervision for the purpose of reconsideration.
Personal Leave Without Pay. Employees may make requests for personal leave without pay, and such requests shall not be unreasonably denied. Such requests should be made as far in advance as possible, however it is understood that in cases of personal emergency, advance notice may not be possible.
