Leaves of Absence Without Pay. A leave of absence without pay may be granted to an employee for personal reasons for a period up to six (6) months. A request for a leave of absence shall be submitted in writing, stating the reasons for the request. The conditions under which the leave of absence is granted shall be specified in writing by the University. If the employee's job is not held open during the leave period, the employee shall be eligible to return to the next position open provided they are qualified. Failure to return at the expiration of the approved leave of absence shall result in termination of employment. The employee may continue health insurance at their own expense if the employee arranges a pre-payment for the leave of absence period. Employees taking a leave for the convenience of the University will have their group insurance continued. Employees may elect to have their accumulated vacation retained in their accounts pending their return or termination. Vacation or sick leave benefits shall not accrue during the leave period although the previous balance will be maintained.
Leaves of Absence Without Pay. Leaves of absence without pay shall be considered only for employees who plan to return to work and will be granted for no more than one year. This may be extended upon expiration at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. When a leave of absence is not covered by sick leave or annual leave, the employee shall not earn salary benefits or fringe benefits during the period of leave. A leave, ordinarily, would not be recommended for an employee who has been employed in the District less than one year. Probationary employees with less than six months service shall be requested to resign, but every consideration will be given them for reemployment. 18.8.1 A short-term leave may be granted to permanent employees subject to approval by the Board of Trustees. If the leave of absence does not exceed three (3) months, the employee shall be guaranteed his/her same position upon return to work. 18.8.2 Extended leave may be granted to permanent employees, subject to approval by the Board of Trustees. If the leave is for more than three (3) months, the employee shall be offered the first available opening in a "comparable" position. "Comparable" shall be construed to mean a position requiring the same skills and working conditions, with rate of pay, etc. being the same. All leaves of absence granted shall be with the understanding that the employee will be reassigned as stated herein, with all accumulation of sick leave on record, and at the same class and step on the salary schedule as of the date of commencement of the leave of absence (except the anniversary date will change). The request for leave of absence shall be made in writing to the Board of Trustees thirty (30) days prior to leaving, whenever possible. The notification of return to work or availability for reassignment shall be made in writing to the Director of Human Resources, at least fifteen (15) days prior to the end of the approved leave. Such notification shall constitute compliance with the conditions of leave.
Leaves of Absence Without Pay. Section 1 The Superintendent shall grant a leave of absence to anyone called into the military service by the government. Section 2 An employee may be granted a leave of absence without pay for up to one (1) year for health reasons. Requests for such leave will be supported by appropriate medical evidence. Section 3 An employee, whose personal illness extends beyond the period of time for which he is entitled to receive sick leave, may be granted a leave of absence without pay for such time as he is necessary for complete recovery from such illness. Section 4 An employee may be granted a leave of absence without pay or increment for up to one (1) year for the purpose of caring for a sick member of his immediate family. Section 5 Provided the insurance carrier agrees, administrators who are on extended leave of absence may continue to be covered under the town’s insurance plan. The premium for this coverage shall be paid by the administrator. Section 6 All benefits which an employee was entitled at the time of his leave of absence commenced, including unused accumulated sick leave, will be restored to him upon his return, and he will be assigned to the same position which he held at the time said leave commenced, if available, or, if not, to a substantially equivalent position for which the member is certifiable. Section 7 It shall be the policy of the Committees not to consider the granting of the leaves of absence without pay provided for in Sections 2 through 4 immediately above unless the employee has completed three (3) consecutive years of employment by the Committee. Request for leaves of absence shall be submitted in writing to the Superintendent with the reasons therefore. Section 8 Bargaining unit members eligible for Workers Compensation shall receive 60% of their regular base pay through Workers Compensation, with the remaining 40% being deducted from the bargaining unit member’s accrued sick leave, if any. Bargaining unit members will not submit their Workers Compensation checks to the school districts.

Employees who are elected or appointed as Union officials or representatives shall, at the written request of the employee, be granted leaves without pay for the maximum term of office, not to exceed three (3) years. Such leaves may be renewed or extended by written mutual consent of the Union and the Employer. Section 3. Union officials or elected delegates shall be granted up to six (6) weeks leave without pay each year without loss of seniority credit where such time is necessary to enable them to attend official union conventions or conferences. Section 4. After completing one (1) year of service, an employee may be granted a leave of absence without pay at the sole discretion of the Employer for educational purposes. Such leave shall not exceed one (1) year and shall not be granted more than once every four years. a. After completing twelve (12) months of service, permanent employees shall be granted, upon written request, up to six (6) months of sick leave without pay with benefits, on a rolling twelve (12) month year basis, provided the employee has at least 1250 hours of actual work time within the twelve (12) months preceding the commencement of the leave (900 hours for permanent part-time employees). If the illness or disability is due to a serious health condition as defined by the Family and Medical Leave Act, leave shall be granted for less than two (2) consecutive weeks. The request, which shall be submitted in advance of the leave if circumstances permit, shall include proof of illness or disability in the form of a doctor's certificate which shall state a prognosis and expected date of return. If requested and properly documented as medically necessary, leave under this Section shall be approved on an intermittent or reduced-time basis during the first twelve (12) weeks of absence per rolling twelve (12) month year. After twelve (12) weeks of absence, whether taken intermittently, on a reduced-time basis, or continuously, subsequent leaves in the rolling twelve (12) month year shall not be approved for periods less than two (2) consecutive weeks, except as described in subsection 5.d below. Leaves of Absence Without Pay. Any employee who has no sick leave, and is mentally or physically incapacitated to perform his/her duties; or who, for any stated reason including maternity, wishes to absent himself/herself from his/her duties, may be granted a leave of absence in accordance with Section 17.6. Such leave shall be granted only when it is deemed to be in the best interests of the City, and except in case of illness or disability, shall not exceed one (1) year.

Leaves of Absence Without Pay. Leaves without pay may be granted in cases where such absence would not be contrary to the best interest of the City. Such leave is not a right but a privilege granted for extraordinary reasons and shall not exceed 12 months. An employee on leave without pay shall receive no compensation and shall accumulate no vacation or sick leave while on such leave. There shall be no loss of seniority rights. All leaves without pay shall be approved by the City Manager. An employee returning to work from leave without pay shall be placed on the salary step achieved prior to such leave. If the leave exceeds 2 biweekly pay periods, the employee's anniversary date shall be postponed by the number of days of the leave.
Leaves of Absence Without Pay. The City Manager may grant a leave of absence without pay to any employee, upon recommendation of the Department Executive. The Department Executive may grant a leave of absence without pay for a maximum of eighteen (18) hours. An employee desiring a leave of absence without pay for more than eighteen hours shall file a written request therefore on forms provided by the Management Services Department. The request shall state the title of his position and the name of the employing department, the beginning and ending dates of the desired leave of absence, and a full statement of the reasons supporting the request. The Department Executive’s approval of a leave of absence without pay for a continuous period up to a maximum of eighteen (18) hours may be reported by noting on the time report.
