Backfill Material Sample Clauses
The Backfill Material clause defines the requirements and standards for materials used to fill excavated areas after construction or installation work. It typically specifies the type, quality, and compaction of materials that must be used, and may outline testing procedures or approval processes to ensure compliance. By setting clear expectations for backfill materials, this clause helps prevent future settlement or structural issues, ensuring the long-term stability and safety of the completed project.

All backfill material shall be free from cinders, ashes, slag, refuse, rubbish, vegetable or organic materials, lumpy or frozen material, boulders, rocks or stones or other material which in the opinion of the Employer’s Representative is unsuitable or deleterious. Unless otherwise specified or permitted by the Employer’s Representative, all backfill material shall be compacted by mechanical means using equipment with suitably shaped feet or plates. At the time of placing the backfill, the Contractor will be responsible to ensure that the optimum moisture content is achieved so that the required degree of compaction is achieved. If necessary, the Contractor shall be required to add water to the backfill material in such a manner so that the moisture content is uniform throughout each layer during compaction.
