Common use of Basic Clause in Contracts

Basic. (a) An employee is entitled to sick leave at the rate of one and one-half (1½) days per month. An employee having a continuing appointment shall be credited with eighteen (18) days sick leave each year on the first day of April. A newly appointed employee shall be credited, on appointment, with sick leave for the remainder of the fiscal year, i.e. until March 31, at the rate of one and one-half (1½) days per month. A part-time employee is eligible for sick leave on a prorated basis which is calculated at the time it is required. (b) Term employees may accumulate and carry forward all unused sick leave to their future contracts when the break between contracts is six (6) months or less. Any break longer than six (6) months will cancel all previous sick leave credits.
