California Civil Code 1798. 29 requires notifying California residents whose unencrypted personal information was, or is reasonably believed to have been acquired by an unauthorized person of the data breach discovery. In case of loss or unauthorized disclosure of PII, the Agency must notify in writing those people whose personal information was lost or disclosed. EXCEPTION: There is no requirement to notify individuals if the personal information was encrypted.
