Common use of Canine Compensation (Canine Officer/Animal Premium) Clause in Contracts

Canine Compensation (Canine Officer/Animal Premium). Individuals assigned to the Canine Unit will be paid for an additional forty (40) minutes per day as full and complete compensation for all time spent caring for the assigned animal during the employee’s off duty hours. This will include feeding, cleaning, brushing, and miscellaneous home training. No employee shall spend more than the allocated forty (40) minutes per day without the express written authorization of their supervisor. This time shall be paid at the rate of the current federal minimum wage per hour (at straight time or to be calculated at time a half when appropriate). The routine reassignment by the appointing authority from a Canine assignment to a non-canine assignment shall not be considered as a demotion or loss of pay and shall not be subject to the grievance or appeal process unless presented as a punitive action.
