Causes for Granting Sick Leave. Sick leave shall be granted only for absence from duty because of personal illness, legal quarantine, injury on the job, or death or illness in the immediate family. Immediate family for death shall be defined as the employee's spouse, domestic partner, children, parents, step parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, or any member of the employee's household. It shall also include the employee's spouse's children, parents, step parents, grandparents, brothers or sisters. Immediate family for illness shall be defined as the employee's spouse, children, parents, step parent, step children, domestic partner, grandchild, or any members of the employee's household. Sick leave may be utilized for reasonable periods of time as the employee’s attendance may be necessary per M.S. § 181.9413.
