CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS. Certificate programs offer those who are already working in business, foodservice, or agencies an opportunity to broaden and deepen their skills or to learn the basic skills needed to change careers. This program does not include general education classes. CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS. Full or part-time employees who are accepted in a certificate program may enroll on a space available basis after completing the introductory period. The monetary value of six (6) credits a semester will be credited to the employee’s account per semester. The College will not authorize full remission for an employee at the beginning of a certificate program. Dependents of employees who have completed one (1) year of service may enroll in undergraduate certificate programs on a space available basis. Full-time employees hired on or prior to December 17, 2007 may send, after acceptance in programs, a spouse, legal dependent children as defined by the IRS, or parents without cost of tuition on a space available basis, to undergraduate programs. Full-time employees hired after December 17, 2007 with at least one (1) year of service may send, after acceptance in programs, a spouse, and legal dependent children, as defined by the IRS without cost of tuition on a space available basis, to undergraduate programs. Employees are required to provide written proof of the spouse or dependent children’s relationship to the employee.
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS. It is the intent of UMass Memorial to provide financial assistance to eligible employees in their pursuit of approved certifications which are required for the work functions they perform at UMass Memorial
a. To be eligible for reimbursement for a Certificate Program an employee must work in a budgeted position of at least 20 hours per week at UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Memorial Medical Group.
a. Employee must have also completed at least three months of employment before reimbursement for a certificate program is sought.
b. The maximum payment towards a certificate program is $500 annually.
c. Additional payment may be provided annually for certificate programs that are part of the Workforce Development strategy as outlined by the Workforce Development leadership not to exceed $5,250 for full-time status or $2,625 for part-time status.
d. Reimbursement for certificate programs will count towards maximum annual tuition reimbursement / student loan repayment benefit of $5,250 for full-time status employees or $2,625 for part-time status employees per calendar year, as applicable.
e. The following expenses will not be reimbursed through this program
i. Attendance at seminars, conferences or workshops associated with obtaining the certification or recertification
ii. Deposits, transportation, parking fees, hotel expenses, meals, or late fees.
iii. Reporting agency licensing fees
iv. Applicants who do not pass the requirements to obtain certification
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS. Upon completion of requirements for certificate programs related to their essential job function and official proof of such completion, employee will receive a stipend in accordance with Chapter IX, Article 1, B.
