Common use of Commencement and Duration of Benefits Clause in Contracts

Commencement and Duration of Benefits. Accident and Sickness benefits will commence on the first day of disability due to a non-occupational accident or injury, or hospital confinement (including day surgery), and the sixth day of disability due to a non-occupational illness. Benefits will be payable for a maximum of up to the lesser of 15 weeks or a period of time equal to your length of service at disability. A period of continuous disability shall include all disability absences due to the same or related causes separated by less than 90 days of full-time, active work. Successive periods of disability due to entirely unrelated causes will be considered one period of disability if the absences are not separated by a recovery and return to active full-time work.
