D ependent Students on Medically Necessary Leave of Absence. i. If an eligible dependent child is covered because they are a Full-Time or Part-Time Student at a post-secondary school, and they no longer meet the Plan’s definition of Full-Time or Part-Time Student due to a Medically Necessary leave of absence, coverage may be extended until the earlier of the following: 1) one year after the Medically Necessary leave of absence begins; or 2) the date coverage would otherwise terminate under the Contract. ii. The Medically Necessary leave of absence or change in enrollment status must begin while the child is suffering from a serious illness or injury; or the leave of absence from the school must be medically certified by the child’s Attending Physician; and iii. certification must state that the child is suffering from a serious illness or injury and that the leave of absence (or other change of enrollment) is Medically Necessary.
