Employee Professional Development Fund. 1. At the beginning of each school year $250.00 will be made available to each employee (regardless of FTE) for the purpose of continued personal professional development. 2. Professional development funds may be used on a reimbursement basis for professional development expenses, or may be taken as salary or stipend for work related to professional development that occurs outside of the regular student day. Appropriate professional development expenses for this purpose are limited to: books, journals, or subscriptions to support professional development; clock hours, tuition, registration fees, pre-approved travel*, pre-approved lodging*, and meals* associated with the attendance at state or national conferences or recognized professional development courses/trainings; and the cost of a substitute teacher for release time. For all salary or stipends paid, the employee’s professional development account will be charged the associated benefits cost. *These expenses are subject to applicable School Board policies and procedures. The intent of this requirement is that travel expenses comply with School Board policies and procedures and not to judge the relevance of the professional development offering. 3. Employees working on group/collaborative projects, at their option, may combine all or portions of their collectively available professional development funds for mutually beneficial activities as described above. Proposals to combine these resources must be made in writing and include a clear accounting procedure for expenditures and balances of the “teamed” professional funds, signed by participating employees, and approved in advance by the building administrator or program supervisor. 4. An individual may carry-over unused professional development funds from year to year, up to a value of $1,250.00 (five years x $250.00). Including the allotment for the current year, no employee will have more than $1,500.00 in his/her account at a time. 5. A Professional Development Fund Carry-Over Pool shall be funded from unused professional development funds that exceed each employee’s $1,500.00 maximum amount, and from unused professional development funds occurring because of an employee’s separation of employment. These pooled funds will be distributed equally among all eligible candidates who make application by November 25th of the current school year provided: a.
