Exterior Coating. All ductile iron pipes, fittings, and special castings shall be coated on the exterior surfaces with a bituminous coating approximately 1 mil thick. The finished coating shall be continuous, smooth, neither brittle when cold nor sticky when exposed to the sun and shall be strongly adherent to the pipe. Surfaces shall be clean and dry, free from all grease, oil, sand, and other foreign materials when painted.

Prime Coat – Immediately after abrasive blasting and before any rusting occurs, apply one (1) coat of TNEMEC Series 91-H2O-HYDRO-ZINC to all bare steel surfaces with a dry film thickness of 2.5 to 3.5 mils. b. Intermediate Coat – Apply one (1) complete coat of TNEMEC Series 73 ENDURA- SHIELD II with a dry film thickness of 2.0 to 3.0 mils.
