For Non-Law Enforcement Purposes. Based on their integration as part of the school community, SROs may periodically require access to student information for purposes that fall outside of the SRO’s law enforcement role outlined in Section II. Student information received by the SRO (or other Police Department employee identified in Section VI.A.) that is not related to criminal conduct risking or causing substantial harm shall not be used to take law enforcement action against a student but may be used to connect a student or family with services or other supports. Prior to such a disclosure, whenever possible, the principal or principal’s designee shall notify the student’s parent/guardian, the student, or both, when such information will be shared with the SRO.
