Greater benefits. An employee who must finish a job begun during a standard daily work period for which a lower wage rate is applicable shall continue to receive his own wage rate. An employee who, during a day’s work, performs work other than the work of his trade, specialty or occupation, for which a higher wage rate is applicable, shall be paid the higher wage rate for the entire time he performs such work. This subsection shall not have the effect of allowing the employer to assign an employee to work or of allowing the employee to perform work in a trade, specialty or occupation for which he does not hold the appropriate competency certificate.
