GRIEVANCE TIME LINES. An aggrieved Employee shall bring the grievance to the Deputy Chief of Police at Step 1 of the Grievance Procedure within twenty-one (21) calendar days of its occurrence, or if at the time the Employee claims he was unaware of the grievance and Management cannot substantiate otherwise, within twenty-one (21) calendar days of his/her knowledge of the incident giving rise to the grievance. Any grievance which has received an answer from management and is not advanced by an employee to any step of the grievance procedure within the time limits prescribed shall not be considered timely filed, and shall be void. A grievance not responded to by the Chief of Police, or the Safety Director or their designated representatives within the time limits prescribed in their respective steps of the grievance procedure, may be automatically advanced to the next step of the grievance procedure.
