Interference with Performance of Duties. (a) Where the pregnancy of an employee interferes with the performance of the employee's duties, the City of Lethbridge may, by notice in writing to the employee, require the employee to commence parental leave under Clause 19.01, but not to exceed the twelve (12) weeks immediately preceding the estimated date of delivery. (b) During cases of pregnancy, an employee may be unable to perform all the duties of her own position but may well be able to perform alternate work. It is therefore desirable to both the City and the Union that alternate work be provided. If alternate work at an equivalent rate of pay is available within the bargaining unit, it will be provided. If, however, this is not possible, alternate work at a lesser rate of pay will be offered. The employee shall have the right to refuse alternate work and elect, instead, to commence parental leave.
