Introduction to ISO-9126/SQUARE Sample Clauses

Introduction to ISO-9126/SQUARE. ISO/IEC 9126 (1991): Software product evaluation - Quality characteristics and guidelines for their use, which was developed to support these needs, defines six quality characteristics, describes a software product evaluation process model based on metrics. [ISO9126]. As quality characteristics and associated metrics can be useful not only for evaluating a software product, but also for defining quality requirements and other usage, ISO/IEC 9126 (1991) has been replaced by two related multipart standards: ISO/IEC 9126 (Software product quality) and ISO/IEC 14598 (Software product evaluation). The software product quality characteristics defined in this part of ISO/IEC 9126 can be used to specify both functional and non-functional customer and user requirements. Dependability issues are essentially captured under the reliability section (maturity, fault tolerance, recoverability, reliability), and functionality to some extent (security, accuracy). The productivity is not addressed as the standard only focused on product metric. As explained in section 2.2.1, ISO-9126 proposes a classification in three categories: internal metrics, external metrics and quality in use metrics. The relevant metrics will be highlighted in the next sections. Note however that those are not specially adapted to a development based on formal methods.
