Kettles. .1 Arrange for the safe location of asphalt kettles and material storage with the Departmental Representative before moving them on site. Do not locate kettles on any roof or structure and keep them at least 10m away from a building and at a safe distance from parked automobiles. .2 Equip kettles with thermometers or gauges that are in good working order. .3 Do not operate kettles at temperatures in excess of 232oC. .4 Maintain continuous supervision while kettles are in operation and provide metal covers for the kettles to smother any flames in case of fire. Provide fire extinguishers as required in article 12. .5 Advise the Departmental Representative of container capacities prior to start of work. .6 Keep compressed gas cylinders secured in an upright position and a minimum of 20 feet away from any kettle.
