Leave for Elected Officers. Employees elected as President, First Vice-president, 2nd Vice-president, Regional President of Employees Union or National Director for the North shall be granted leave of absence for the term of office. During the leave of absence such employees shall maintain all accumulated rights and benefits to which they are entitled under the Collective Agreement. Upon reasonable notification, the Employer shall grant leave without pay to the Union representative seconded for a minimum period of one week to serve as President of the Union on a temporary basis. The Employer shall continue to pay such employees their applicable salary in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement. Upon invoice by the Employer the Union shall reimburse the Employer for the amounts so paid. The benefits of any group shall be extended to such employees and the Union will reimburse the Employer for such costs involved. Such employees shall be entitled to an increment for each year of their leave of absence to a maximum of Step Six in their pay level of their applicable salary. Such employees shall advise the Employer as soon as possible when an extension of the leave of absence is applicable due to re-election. No employee organization, other than the Alliance, shall be permitted to have Membership Fees deducted by the Association from the pay of the employees in the Bargaining Unit. The amounts deducted in accordance with clause shall be remitted to the Comptroller of the Alliance, Street, Ottawa, Ontario, by cheque a reasonable period of time after deductions are made and be accompanied by identifying each employee and the deductions made on his behalf. The Association agrees to make deductions for reasonable purposes on the basis of the production of appropriate documentation. The Alliance agrees to and save the Association harmless against any claim or liability arising out of the application of this article except for any claim or arising out of an error committed by the Association. The Association agrees to identify annually on each employee's slip the total mount of Membership Fees deducted for the year.
