OXIDATION REACTION Sample Clauses

OXIDATION REACTION. Push one end of a 20 cm length copper wire into a cork and coil the other end by making two or three turns about a thin glass rod. Heat the coil in Bunsen flame until it ceases to impart any color to the flame. While still warm, dip the coil into a test tube containing ethanol (1 mL). Repeat this process several times. Cool the test tube in water bath and add one drop of the alcohol into a test tube containing 1 mL of Xxxxxx’x reagent. Shake the tube slowly and note the formation of a pink or purple coloration. If the compound does not dissolve in the Schiff‟s reagent, cover the test tube with a cork and shake it vigorously until an emulsion forms. Record your observation. Repeat the experiment with 2-butanol and t-butanol. (Important: Before reusing the wire for another compound, ensure that the material from the previous test has been destroyed by heating it until the flame is not colored.)
