Common use of Participant Support Costs Clause in Contracts

Participant Support Costs. a. Participant support costs as defined in 2 CFR § 200.75 are direct costs for items such as stipends or subsistence allowances, travel allowances and registration fees paid to or on behalf of participants (but not employees) in connection with NSF-sponsored conferences. In accordance with Article 3, prior approval is required for any additional categories of participant support costs, such as incentives, gifts, souvenirs, t-shirts and/or memorabilia. The request must be submitted via use of NSF’s electronic systems and NSF approval of such changes will be by an amendment to the award signed by the cognizant NSF Grants and Agreements Officer. Awardee organizations must account for participant support costs separately. Indirect costs (F&A) are not allowed on participant support costs (see GPG Chapter II.C.2.g(v)). b. Funds provided for participant support may not be used by awardees for other categories of expense without the specific prior written approval of the cognizant NSF Program Officer. Such requests must be submitted electronically via use of NSF’s electronic systems.
