Philo’s method. The second section of the survey of previous studies will be dedicated to the advances in Philonic research regarding Xxxxx’x method in developing his thought – that is, his intellectual milieu and his treatment of the Bible. I will explore Xxxxx’x method by addressing two modern ways of interpretation that ultimately regard the issue of divine forgiveness as irrelevant for Xxxxx’x intellectual considerations. The second way is when Xxxxx is thought to mention divine forgiveness only because it appears in his source, the Bible, but with little regard for the intellectual challenges the notion implies.108 In order to evaluate whether these claims do justice to Xxxxx, we need to explore his method. First, to explore whether Xxxxx was indeed an inconsistent thinker, I will describe the intellectual milieu in which Xxxxx was active. Xxxx X. Xxxxxx’x and Xxxxx X. Xxxxx’x contributions will lead the way into Xxxxx’x intellectual milieu. Xxxxx’x reception of the Bible will be explored next, to see whether he occasionally mentioned notions mainly because he found them in the Septuagint, while being largely inattentive to the intellectual challenges they implied. Here, Xxxxx X. Xxxxxxx’x and Xxxx Xxxxxxx’x contributions will lead the way.
