Placement Upon Demotion. 8 A Unit member who accepts a voluntary demotion, a voluntary demotion in lieu of 9 layoff, or one who exercises displacement rights into a lower classification in lieu of layoff, shall 10 be placed on the step of the salary schedule for the lower classification which is closest to the 11 hourly rate that the Unit member earned in the higher classification, provided that the Unit 12 member shall not receive an hourly rate increase thereby.
