Common use of Pre-Candidacy Clause in Contracts

Pre-Candidacy. All Assistant Librarians become pre-candidates upon ap- pointment. The period of Pre-Candidacy will not normally exceed three years. A librarian and archivist shall not re- main in the Pre-Candidacy rank for more than three years. During this three-year period, it will be determined whether an individual’s appointment will be continued to Candidacy. Proceedings concerning the promotion and advancement of an Assistant Librarian, or the non-renewal of a probationary appointment, may be initiated at any time during the three- year Pre-Candidacy period, but must be initiated by 1 May of the second year of service.
