Project Electronic Data Control. This investigation relies heavily on data collected and stored electronically. Electronic data is subject to damage and/or loss if not properly protected. As such, project electronic data shall be downloaded from its collection device (e.g., laptop computers, data loggers, GPS data collectors, etc.) on at least a daily basis. At the conclusion of each day’s survey activities, the FOL shall ensure electronic data collected that day is backed up to appropriate removable media (e.g., CD, zip disk, or equivalent) and shall ensure the backup is removed from site. Under no circumstances shall the backup be stored in the same building in which the original project electronic data is stored. Data files will be named according to a naming protocol designated by the SRE, in consultation with the Senior Project Manager. No variations from this protocol will occur without the prior concurrence of the SRE. During data download and transfer transactions, the applicable data file name(s) shall be included in project data logbook entries.
