Common use of Purpose and Definition Clause in Contracts

Purpose and Definition. Both parties hereto agree that continued service over a period of time should, and in most cases does, increase the worth of an employee to their employer, and that length of service should receive recognition and therefore agree: that in the case of promotion the principle of seniority, where skill and ability are relatively equal, shall be the determining factor and shall apply upon a Company-wide basis in accordance with the specific applicable provisions of this Agreement.
