Recognition of Rights of Stewards. The Employer recognizes the Union's right to select three (3) stewards to represent employees. The number of shop stewards may be changed by local mutual agreement. The Union agrees to provide the Employer with a list of the employees designated as stewards and the Bargaining Committee Chairperson. A ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ shall obtain the permission of his/her immediate supervisor before leaving his/her work to perform his/her duties as a ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇. Leave for this purpose shall be without loss of pay. Such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld. On resuming his/her normal duties, the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ shall notify his/her supervisor. Duties of the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ are:
(a) investigation of complaints of an urgent nature;
(b) investigation of grievances and assisting any employee whom the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ represents in preparing and presenting a grievance in accordance with the grievance procedure;
(c) supervision of ballot boxes and other related functions during ratification votes involving the Employer and provided the ratification vote is held on the Employer's premises;
(d) carrying out duties within the realm of assigned safety responsibilities for stewards who are members of safety committees; and
(e) attending meetings called by Management.
Recognition of Rights of Stewards. (a) The BCGEU shall recognize the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇(s) elected or appointed by the Union and shall not discharge, discipline or otherwise discriminate against such ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇(s) for carrying out the duties proper to that position.
(b) COPE 378 agrees to provide the BCGEU with a list of the employees designated as stewards for each jurisdictional area.
