Regular Relief Assignments. All possible regular relief assignments with five (5) days of work and two (2) consecutive rest days will be established to do the work necessary on rest days of assignments in six (6) or seven (7) day service or combinations thereof, or to perform relief work on certain days and such types of other work on other days as may be assigned under this agreement. Where no guarantee rule now exists such relief assignments will not be required to have five (5) days of work per week. The inclusion or non-inclusion of the foregoing sentence shall be without prejudice to the determination of the question of whether or not a guarantee exists. Assignments for regular relief positions may on different days include different starting times, duties and work locations for employees at the same seniority point, provided they take the starting time, duties and work locations of the employee or employees whom they are relieving.

Assignments for regular relief positions may on different days include different starting times, duties and work locations for employees on the same seniority district and of the same craft provided they take the starting time, duties and work locations of the employee or employees they are relieving and are not assigned to work more than eight (8) hours in a calendar day. NOTE: Each relief assignment will be assigned a headquarters point. However, relief assignments may be required to fill vacancies at points within forty (40) miles of the headquarters point and time for employees so assigned will not start until reaching such outlying point. Employees filling such vacancies away form the headquarters point shall receive mileage pursuant to Article E from the headquarters point to and from the outlying point or from their residence to and from the outlying point, whichever is closer. (This note is not applicable to Maintenance of Way Craft)

Where work is required by the carrier to be performed on a day which is not a part of any assignment, it may be performed by an available unassigned employee who will otherwise not have forty hours of work that week; in all other cases by the regular employee. c. Assignments for regular relief positions may on different days include different starting times, duties and work locations for employees of the same class at the same seniority point or in the same seniority district, provided they take the starting time, duties and work locations of the employee or employees whom they are relieving. d. Employees assigned to regular rest day relief service who are required to travel from one seniority point to another shall be paid travel time as hereinafter provided: (1) The Carrier shall designate a headquarters point for each regular relief assignment, which shall be changed only after ten (10) days' written notice to the employee affected. (2) If the time consumed in actual travel, including waiting time enroute, from the headquarters point to the work location, together with necessary time spent waiting for the employee's shift to start, exceeds one hour and thirty minutes, or if on completion of the employee’s shift necessary time spent waiting for transportation plus the time of travel, including waiting time enroute, necessary to return to the employee’s headquarters point or to the next work location exceeds one hour and thirty minutes then the excess over one hour and thirty minutes in each case shall be paid for as working time at the straight time rate of the job to which traveled. (3) Where an employee is required to travel from the employee’s headquarters point to another point outside the environs of the city or town in which the employee’s headquarters point is located, the carrier will either provide transportation without charge or reimburse the employee for such transportation cost. ("Transportation" means travel by rail, bus or private automobile and “transportation cost" means the established passenger fare or automobile allowance where automobile is used.)
