Replacement While On Union Leave. (a) Without Pay - leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority will be granted: (1) to an elected or appointed representative of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated; (2) for elected or appointed representatives of the Union to attend business which requires them to leave their premises of employment; (3) for four (4) Employees who are representatives of the Union on a bargaining committee to attend meetings of the bargaining committee; (4) to Employees called by the Union to appear as witnesses before an arbitration board or the Labour Relations Board of B.C. (5) the Employer agrees as a matter of principle that the workload of Employees shall not be unreasonably increased as a result of an Employee taking a leave pursuant to Article 3.9(a). The supervisor/manager shall consult with the Employee taking the leave to determine the need to backfill and if the need is immediate. (b) With Pay - leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority will be granted: (1) to four (4) Employees who are representatives of the Union on the bargaining committee to leave their employment to carry on negotiations with the Employer; (2) to stewards, or their alternates, to perform their duties pursuant to Article 3.5; (3) to Employees designated to sit as an observer on a selection panel in accordance with Article 25.7; (4) to Employees appointed by the Union as Union representatives to joint Union Management committees as specified in this Agreement to attend meetings of the committees.

  • Local Union Leave Upon written request, leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees for Union business in accordance with the following provisions: i) In bargaining units with up to 12 members, no more than one (1) employee shall be on leave at any one time. In bargaining units with 13 or more members, no more than two (2) employees shall be on leave at any one time. ii) The aggregate total number of days of leave, including Provincial Committee Leave, will not exceed sixty-five (65) working days in a calendar year. iii) The Union will give at least four (4) weeks’ written notice where practicable. iv) Replies to request for leaves of absence shall be given within two

  • Union Leave Leave of absence for Union business shall be given without pay up to a maximum of (as per the local provisions under L19) days per calendar year provided such leave does not interfere with the continuance of efficient operation of the Hospital. Such leave shall be subject to the following conditions: (a) not more than (as per the local provisions under L19) employees of the Hospital are absent on any such leave at the same time, and not more than (as per the local provisions under L19) employee from a department; (b) a request must be made in writing at least twenty-one days prior to the commencement of the function for which leave is requested, unless it is not reasonably possible to give such notice; (c) such request shall state the general nature of the function to be attended; (d) employees on a Union Leave which is approved by the Hospital in accordance with the above conditions shall be paid for such leave by the Hospital. The Hospital shall then forward a statement of such wages paid to the employee affected to the union for reimbursement of the amount stated; (e) an employee who is elected or appointed to office with the CAW, shall upon application by the Union in writing, be granted a leave of absence without loss of seniority and benefits for up to three (3) years. An extension shall be granted upon written application by the employee to the administration of the Hospital. During such leaves of absence, salary and benefits shall be kept whole by the Hospital and the Union agrees to reimburse the Hospital for such salary and the Hospital's contribution to said benefits. The employee agrees to notify the Hospital of the employee's intention to return to work within two (2) weeks following the termination of office for which the leave was granted. The union agrees to notify the Hospital five (5) months in advance of the Local Union election. The union further agrees that the requirement to meet under Article 14 will be waived. At the end of such leave, any employee hired or placed as a substitute for the employee on such absence, may be terminated or laid off by the Hospital as required, or may be transferred to the employee's previous position if the substitution was a transfer. An employee on leave of absence under this provision shall continue to accumulate all rights and privileges under this Agreement. It is understood that the intent of this article is that it shall normally apply to only one employee at a time per circumstance as noted above, and that the Union shall provide adequate notice prior to an employee commencing Union Leave of Absence. Further applications may be granted consistent with the Hospital’s staffing requirements. In addition, it is understood that any employee so elected or appointed is required to maintain their competence in the event that they are to return to the workplace.

  • Leave of Absence for Union Business 20.1 On reasonable notice in writing and where operational requirements permit the Employer may grant a leave of absence without pay to an Employee who is elected or selected: (a) as a member of the Board of Directors of the Union for the attendance at Board meetings; (b) as a delegate to attend special conventions, conferences and/or educational programs of the Union and affiliated bodies including the National Union of Public and General Employees Canadian Labour Congress and the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour; (c) as members of standing Committees of the Union for the attendance at meetings of the standing Committees; (d) as members of the Bargaining Union negotiating committee of the Local for attendance at Committee meetings; (e) as members of the Executive to attend Executive Meetings of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union and the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour; or (f) for such other Union business as may be authorized by the Union. Such leaves will not be unreasonably refused. Such leaves shall be without pay but without loss of benefits or seniority during the period of the leave. The Employer will continue the salary and benefits of an Employee, who is granted leave without pay for Union business, and will invoice the Union for the Employee's salary and benefits. 20.2 On reasonable notice in writing and where operational requirements permit, an Employee who is seconded for a position with the Union or anybody with which the Union is affiliated may be granted a leave of absence without loss of seniority and benefits during the period of the leave. Such leave shall not be unreasonably refused. The Employer will continue the salary of an Employee who is seconded without pay and will invoice the Union for the Employee's salary and the Union shall reimburse the Employer for all pay or benefits during the period of the leave.

  • Notice to Union of Long Term Layoff In the event of a pending layoff of a permanent or long-term nature, the Home will: (a) Provide the Union with ninety (90) days’ notice; (b) Meet with the Union to review the following: i) The reasons causing the layoff; ii) The service which the Home will undertake after the layoff; iii) The method of implementation, including areas of cutback and the employees to be laid off. It is understood that permanent or long-term nature means a layoff which will be longer than eight (8) weeks.
