Resolution of Work Place Conflicts. (a) All Bargaining Unit employees have the right to work in an environment where there is mutual respect and where the early identification and positive resolution of workplace conflicts will be encouraged and supported by the College. (b) Where employees, the College or the Union identify that a workplace conflict exists and where the College and the Union agree that a joint intervention strategy should apply, the parties will jointly support the employees in developing a conflict resolution model appropriate to the situation. Where appropriate, the College and the Union will provide mutually agreed upon facilitation support to assist the employees in developing a conflict resolution model and/or facilitating the resolution of the conflict. (c) The College and the Union will work jointly, in resolving conflict and will promote consistent and successful practices. (d) An effective conflict resolution model will incorporate the following elements: (i) A process which provides a safe environment enabling the employee(s) experiencing the conflict to initiate informal resolution discussions with the other employee(s) and for the co-worker(s) receiving the complaint to respond in a respectful manner. (ii) Demonstrated commitment to the process by all affected employees in the work unit(s). (iii) Clearly defined and effective communication strategies.
