Shift Variance. (a) An employee who has a genuine need to vary his or her regular work shift must submit a written request to the District with as much advance notice as possible. However, if the need is unforeseeable, the employee shall contact the District as soon as possible but not less than thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of his or her shift and shall provide the documentation for said request as soon as practicable upon his or her return to work. The District may grant an employee’s request for shift variance, provided the request does not adversely affect the productivity of the department. (b) An employee normally working an eight and one-half (8 ½) hour day who is granted a shift variance shall work an eight and one-half (8 ½) hour day regardless of the “varied” start time.
