The Student Supports clause outlines the obligations and resources that an educational institution or service provider must offer to assist students in their academic and personal development. This may include access to counseling services, academic advising, tutoring, accommodations for disabilities, or other support mechanisms tailored to student needs. By clearly defining the types and extent of support available, this clause ensures that students have the necessary resources to succeed and that both parties understand the institution’s responsibilities, thereby promoting student well-being and academic achievement.
Student Supports. To achieve greater levels of success within VIU programs, student support initiatives might include: a. peer support programs; b. numeracy and literacy supports; c. communication skills workshops; d. tutor supports; and e. study skills enhancements and time management guidance. Applications must be approved by the faculty member’s senior administrator. Subject to the provisions of this ▇▇▇, the Education Support and Professional Development Fund Committee may establish, publish, and work within their own guidelines. The Committee shall comprise two BCGEU members appointed by the Union and two Vancouver Island University administrators. The Education Support and Professional Development Fund Committee shall review and approve applications for funding. The Special Education Department will provide ongoing training. c. The District shall continue to hold virtual training opportunities and provide ongoing support for support staff unit members. d. Student Supports. CSD shall make every effort to provide one Reading Specialist and one Math Interventionist (one of each for Kindergarten and one of each for grades 1-5) in each school by the first day for students. Assist students and parents regarding the process of applying to college or university and preparation for college admissions, to include testing and the determination of Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) obligation. 2.) Interpret test scores and coordinate academic advising, admissions, registration and financial aid information to high school students seeking admission to ▇▇▇ College and other institutions of higher education. 3.) Provide degree path/plans, explain degree and certificate programs, perform evaluations of unofficial transcripts for transferability of coursework, and promote interest inventories or other tools to guide students in college/career exploration. 4.) Assist students with registration for college classes, to include teaching students’ online processes, course selection, data entry, etc. 5.) Coordinate group advising and/or group registration sessions. 6.) Advocate for students for the resolution of academic issues. 7.)
