Cultural Leave for Indigenous Employees a) A self-identified Indigenous employee may request up to three (3) days' leave with pay per calendar year to organize and/or attend Indigenous cultural event(s). Such leave will not be unreasonably withheld. b) Employees will provide the Employer with the dates of the days for which leave will be requested. Wherever possible, a minimum of two weeks' notice is required for leave under this provision.

Cultural Leave for Indigenous Employees. The University will allow an Indigenous employee a reasonable leave of absence with pay, up to two (2) days per calendar year (pro-rated for part-time status), to attend an Indigenous ceremonial gathering or cultural activity. The employee will apply for the leave in writing to the supervisor or designate, and the leave request will not be unreasonably denied.
Cultural Leave for Indigenous Employees i) Indigenous employees are entitled to up to two (2) days leave with pay per school year to observe or participate in traditional Indigenous activities that connect these employees to their culture and language. An additional three (3) days leave without pay may be requested. ii) A minimum of two (2) weeks’ notice is require for leave under this provision. Cultural Leave for Indigenous Employees. ‌ Self-identifying Indigenous employees will be granted a leave of absence with pay for up to two (2) days per calendar year (pro-rated for part time employees), to attend Indigenous ceremonial gatherings or cultural activities in fulfillment of cultural obligations. The employee will seek approval of leave from their supervisor. Such leave requests will not be unreasonably denied. Leave under this provision is in addition to an Indigenous employee's entitlement to leave under Article 38 – Compassionate Leave, as applicable. Where a self-identifying Indigenous employee requires more than two (2) days of leave for a ceremonial, cultural, or spiritual event, the leave shall not be unreasonably denied. This additional leave is unpaid.

  • Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness Leave a) Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness leaves granted to a permanent teacher, long-term occasional teacher or teacher hired into a term position under this Article shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, as amended. b) The teacher will provide to the employer such evidence as necessary to prove entitlement under the Employment Standards Act. c) A teacher contemplating taking such leave(s) shall notify the employer of the intended date the leave is to begin and the anticipated date of return to active employment. d) Seniority and experience continue to accrue during such leave(s). e) Where a teacher is on such leave(s), the Employer shall continue to pay its share of the benefit premiums, where applicable. To maintain participation and coverage under the Collective Agreement, the teacher must agree to provide for payment for the teacher’s share of the benefit premiums, where applicable. f) In order to receive pay for such leaves, a teacher must access Employment Insurance and the Supplemental Employment Benefit (SEB) in accordance with g) to j), if allowable by legislation. An employee who is eligible for E.I. is not entitled to benefits under a school board’s sick leave and short term disability plan. g) The Employer shall provide for permanent teachers, long-term occasional teachers and teachers hired into a term position who access such Leaves, a SEB plan to top up their E.I.

  • Family and Medical Leave (FMLA FMLA leave shall be granted pursuant to applicable law.

  • Probation for Newly Hired Employees (a) The Employer may reject a probationary employee for just cause. A rejection during probation shall not be considered a dismissal for the purpose of Article 11.2

  • Military Caregiver Leave The employer shall grant an employee who is a family member of a covered service member an unpaid leave of up to twenty-six (26) weeks (inclusive of the twelve (12) weeks granted under 1. above) in a single twelve (12) month period to care for the covered service member who has a serious illness or injury incurred in the line of duty on active duty.
