Surface Burning Characteristics Criteria. Insulation product/product family shall be tested as prescribed by Section 4 of this document and must demonstrate the surface burning characteristics of flame-spread index and smoke-development index as required by the most current International Codes3. The Certification Body may grant an exemption for testing and meeting Surface Burning Characteristic criteria if the product is exempt from such testing in the International Codes.
