The faculty member submits his or her application for tenure in the form of a tenure file to the faculty member’s department chair. If the faculty member would like a copy of his or her tenure file, a copy should be made before submitting it to the department chair, as the candidate will not be able to obtain a copy of the file once it has left the department. ii. The tenure files must be submitted to the Chair no later than deadline given below in the fall semester of any applicable year in which the candidate is considered for tenure. 1. The candidate carries the burden of showing that either the department committee, the department chair, or both, did not reasonably apply the tenure criteria when reviewing the candidate’s file. The department committee and department chair enjoy great discretion when applying the criteria to the candidate’s file, and the college committee will not substitute its judgment for theirs when reviewing the prior decisions. If the candidate refuses to appeal the last recommendation to the College Tenure Committee, the candidate must acknowledge such refusal in writing. If the candidate does not file a timely request for appeal it will be determined that they are waiving their right for further appeal.
