Types of Primary Care Providers (PCPs. The MCO is required to contract with a mix of PCPs to ensure the primary care needs of adult and pediatric enrollees are met. The MCO may designate the following providers as PCPs, as appropriate: • Certified nurse midwives8; • Advanced practice nurses (e.g., nurse practitioners (NP)); • Physician Assistants (PA); and • Physicians with the following specialties: General practice; Family practice; Internal medicine; Obstetrics/Gynecology; and Pediatrics.
