Wind Speed and Wind Direction. The wind direction and wind speed are integral components of the calculation of flexible substation bus Rigid Substation Bus thermal ratings. Wind direction perpendicular to the conductor (a 90-degree cross wind) shall be utilized. With regard to wind speed, IEEE Standard 605-2008 includes the mathematical models to be used and to calculate Substation Rigid Bus thermal ratings, where a wind speed of 2 fps is used. However, for New England, a wind speed up to 3 fps shall be allowed.
