Average length of stay definition

Average length of stay means, for a given hospital, a fraction in which the numerator is the number of total days and the denominator is the number of total admissions.
Average length of stay or "ALOS" means over a 12-month period the average duration of inpatient stay expressed in days as determined by dividing total inpatient days by total admissions.
