Composite samples definition

Composite samples means a sample composed of four or more discrete aliquots (samples). The aggregate sample will reflect the average quality of the water or wastewater in the compositing or sample period. Composite sample may be composed of constant volume aliquots collected at regular intervals (simple composite) or flow proportioned.
Composite samples. - means those samples that are made up of a series of small individual samples obtained at regular intervals over the entire discharge day. Composite samples may be time proportioned or flow proportioned, and shall be determined by PVSC.
Composite samples means, for flow rate measurements, the arithmetic mean of no fewer than 4 individual measurements taken at equal intervals for one hour or for the duration of discharge, whichever is shorter. A 4-hour composite sample means, for other than flow rate measurements, a combination of four (4) individual portions obtained at equal time intervals over any 4-hour period or for the duration of the discharge, whichever is shorter. The volume of each individual portion shall be directly proportional to the discharge flow rate at the time of sampling. The sampling period shall coincide with the period of maximum discharge flow.

Examples of Composite samples in a sentence

  • Composite samples comprise a standardised 1 min sample including sampling of all habitats proportional to their availability within each sampling site.
